Microsoft 365 Price Changes: How to Keep Your Subscription at the Same Cost
If you’ve received an email from Microsoft about their upcoming Microsoft 365 Family Subscription price change, don’t worry—it’s not just about inflation. There’s some exciting news behind the update!
The email from Microsoft reads:
“the price for Microsoft 365 Family subscriptions will increase from ZAR 149.00 per month to ZAR 199.00 per month. To continue with the new price, no action is needed—your payment method on file will be automatically charged.”
Microsoft has enhanced their subscription by introducing Copilot, a generative AI chatbot designed to assist you while working on Office documents. This innovative feature is included in the new Microsoft 365 plans, which explains the price adjustment.
However, here’s the good part: Microsoft has also introduced a new subscription option called Microsoft 365 Family Classic. This plan keeps all the features you already know and love, without the Copilot AI, and it stays at the current price of R149,00/month in South Africa.
So, if AI isn’t something you use often, you can easily switch to the Family Classic plan and avoid paying for features you don’t need. It’s all about finding the plan that works best for you!
Here’s how you do it:
1. Sign in to your Microsoft account
2. Click on Subscriptions and find your Microsoft 365 Family Subscription
3. Click onto Manage
3. Click Cancel subscription (don’t worry, this won’t cancel anything just yet)
4. Scroll down to the section that says Choose a plan that’s right for you.
Under Microsoft 365 Family Classic, press the button that says Switch Plan.
5. You will be presented with your preferred payment methods. Click the Buy button
You’ve successfully switched plans and can now enjoy all the features of your original subscription at the same price!
Microsoft’s introduction of Copilot AI brings new possibilities, but it’s great to have a choice. If AI isn’t something you need, switching to Microsoft 365 Family Classic ensures you keep all the essential features at the same price.
